History

The Kaghan Valley has long been a summer retreat, first developed for tourism in the colonial era and remaining one of Pakistan's most visited domestic holiday destinations ever since.

Geography

A river valley following the Kunhar River through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rising from Balakot up to Babusar Pass (4,170m) at its head, dotted with glacial lakes along the way.

A mix of Hindko and Gujjar communities, with a strong tradition of seasonal livestock herding in the high pastures around Naran and Babusar.
