Overview

Babusar Pass connects the Kaghan Valley to Chilas and the Karakoram Highway, cresting at 4,170m with sweeping views back over Lulusar Lake and the Kaghan Valley on one side, and the Nanga Parbat massif on the other. It's one of the most dramatic road journeys in northern Pakistan and a popular route for travelers continuing on to Gilgit-Baltistan.

History

The pass has long served as a seasonal herding and trade route for local Gujjar and Kohistani communities moving livestock between the Kaghan Valley and the Indus region, well before it was developed into a drivable mountain road.
