Beyond Shimshal village's famous community built road lies the Shimshal Pass trek, a remote multi day route across high pastureland used historically by Wakhi herders moving livestock toward the Pamir borderlands. It's one of the least trekked serious routes in Gilgit Baltistan, rewarding those who make the journey with a sense of scale and isolation matched by few other treks in Pakistan.
Trek Itinerary
Days 1 to 2, Hunza to Shimshal
4x4 drive along the community built Shimshal road to the village, acclimatisation day.
Days 3 to 5, Shimshal to High Pastures
Trek up through herding pastures toward the higher approach to Shimshal Pass, camping en route.
Day 6, Shimshal Pass
Reach Shimshal Pass (~4,735m), with views toward the high Pamir borderlands.
Days 7 to 9, Return to Shimshal & Hunza
Descend back through the pastures to Shimshal village, then 4x4 back to Hunza.
