Shangrila Resort, Heaven on Earth

Shangrila Resort has been called "Heaven on Earth" for decades, and when you first see Lower Kachura Lake shimmering in morning light, willows trailing in the water and Baltistani cottages reflected on the surface, you instantly understand why.

The resort's most beloved feature is the airplane restaurant, a retired PIA Fokker aircraft converted into a lakeside dining room. Traditional wooden boats glide across the lake, and in spring the surrounding orchards fill with blossom.

Shangrila is 15 km from Skardu city and best visited early morning (7 to 9 AM) for the finest light and fewer visitors. Entry is free; boating and food are charged separately.
