Overview

Peshawar Museum houses one of the world's finest collections of Gandhara-era Buddhist sculpture, alongside Mughal, Sikh and British colonial-era artefacts. Built in 1907, the museum's collection reflects the region's two-millennia role as a crossroads of Buddhist, Persian, Central Asian and South Asian civilizations.

History

Opened in 1907 during the British colonial era as the Victoria Memorial Hall, the museum has grown into the premier repository of Gandhara art in Pakistan, much of it excavated from sites across the wider Peshawar Valley and Swat.
