Passu Cones, Hunza's Iconic Jagged Peaks

The Passu Cones (also called the Passu Cathedral) are a row of dramatically jagged granite peaks rising above Passu village in Upper Hunza, one of the most photographed mountain silhouettes in Pakistan. Their needle like ridgeline is instantly recognisable and appears on countless Hunza postcards and travel features.

The village of Passu itself sits beside the Hunza River and the Passu Glacier, with a well known suspension bridge nearby offering a classic foreground for photographs of the cones.

History

Passu village has long sat along the historic trade route later paved as the Karakoram Highway, connecting Hunza to Gilgit and onward to Kashgar in China, a route travelled for centuries before it became a modern tourist highway.
