Overview

Khaplu Valley lies 103 km from Skardu along one of Pakistan's most beautiful drives, the turquoise Shyok River road lined with apricot groves and overlooked by towering Karakoram peaks including Masherbrum (7,821m).

The valley's two great heritage sites: Khaplu Fort (now Serena Hotels), a restored royal palace offering heritage accommodation, and Chaqchan Mosque, built in 1370 CE in a distinctive Central Asian layered-timber style. One of Pakistan's oldest mosques. It's also the gateway to K2 and Siachen trekking routes.
