Gurdwara Panja Sahib, The Handprint Shrine

Gurdwara Panja Sahib is built around a rock said to bear the handprint of Guru Nanak, founder of Sikhism, making it one of the most sacred Sikh pilgrimage sites in the world and the focal point of major Baisakhi celebrations each April.

History

According to Sikh tradition, Guru Nanak left his handprint on a boulder here during a spiritual confrontation, and the site has drawn pilgrims for centuries since, with the current gurdwara complex developed around the sacred rock and an adjoining pool.
