Chaukhandi Tombs, Distinctive Sandstone Funerary Architecture Near Karachi

Chaukhandi Tombs form a striking sandstone necropolis east of Karachi, famous for elaborately carved graves decorated with geometric, floral and symbolic motifs. The site offers an unusually intimate look at regional funerary art and tribal history.

Chaukhandi is on Pakistan's UNESCO Tentative List. The tombs are exposed to the elements, so early morning or late afternoon provides both more comfortable conditions and better side light for appreciating the carvings.
