History

Khunjerab has been a high-altitude trade route between South and Central Asia for centuries, formalised as a modern border crossing after the Karakoram Highway's completion in 1979, a joint Pakistan-China engineering project.

Geography

The northernmost point of the Karakoram Highway in Pakistan, at 4,693m on the China border, surrounded by Khunjerab National Park's high-altitude terrain.

Culture

Largely uninhabited high-altitude terrain rather than a populated destination, its significance is as a border landmark and wildlife habitat rather than a cultural stop.

🌦 Weather & Best Time to Visit

Cold even in summer, often near freezing with strong wind regardless of season; snowbound and closed roughly December-April.
