History

Ghizer has historically been a collection of small independent valleys and principalities along trade routes toward Chitral and the Pamirs, with a more linguistically diverse population than most of Gilgit-Baltistan, including Khowar, Shina and Burushaski speakers.

Geography

A district west of Gilgit city, following the Ghizer River through a chain of turquoise lakes, Phander, Khalti and Handrap, toward the Shandur Pass route to Chitral.

Culture

One of Gilgit-Baltistan's most linguistically diverse districts, with several distinct language communities living within a relatively small area, alongside strong fishing and herding traditions tied to its lakes.

🌦 Weather & Best Time to Visit

Similar to Gilgit, warm summers, cold winters; the higher Shandur route closes with snow in winter.
