Summary:
The area gained its English name from early European visitors and climbers approaching Nanga Parbat's Diamir Face, Germans call the mountain "Märchenwiese" (fairy tale meadow), a name still used for this base.
A high alpine meadow at roughly 3,300m on the flank of Nanga Parbat, the ninth highest mountain on Earth, reached via a jeep track from Raikot Bridge on the Karakoram Highway followed by a short trek.
The area is used by local Chilasi and Astori shepherd communities for summer grazing, with simple wooden guesthouses run by local families forming the accommodation base for visitors.
Short summer season (May October) with mild days and cold nights; snowbound the rest of the year.
