What to Pack for Pakistan: A Complete Packing List by Season and Region

What you need to pack changes more than most destinations because you're often crossing from near-freezing mountain nights to hot city days within the same trip.

For northern mountain trips (any season): Layered clothing is non-negotiable, mornings and evenings are cold even in peak summer at altitude. A warm jacket, sturdy closed walking shoes, sunscreen and sunglasses (UV is strong at altitude, stronger than it feels), and a power bank since charging opportunities can be limited in remote guesthouses.

For city trips (Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi): Light, modest clothing, covered shoulders and knees travel better everywhere, not just religious sites, comfortable walking shoes for old-city bazaars, and a scarf that doubles as mosque-visit headcovering and sun protection.

For treks above 3,000m specifically: A sleeping bag rated to at least -10°C, proper thermal base layers, trekking poles, and hiking boots broken in well before you arrive, not on day one of a multi-day trek. We provide detailed kit lists for every trek we operate, and much of this specialist gear (sleeping bags, poles) is worth renting locally rather than flying with, unless you trek regularly.

Universal essentials regardless of itinerary: A basic first-aid kit, a physical copy of your visa approval, a reusable water bottle (tap water isn't drinkable, but bottled water is everywhere), and a downloaded offline map, since signal drops out completely in many mountain valleys.

What you can skip: Formal wear (nowhere on a standard itinerary needs it), and heavy currency reserves in cash you can't easily convert back, PKR is the only currency used day-to-day outside major hotels.
