Editorial note: Prepared by the Pakistan Tours local operations team. Visa, permit, safety, access and price information can change; confirm current official requirements and your written quotation before travel.

Gear needs scale dramatically with trek difficulty, here's what to pack by trek category.

For easy day hikes (Margalla Trails, Mukshpuri): Sturdy walking shoes, a light daypack, sun protection, and water, no specialist gear needed.

For moderate multi-day treks (Fairy Meadows, Rakaposhi Base Camp): Proper trekking boots (broken in before your trip), layered clothing for temperature swings, a warm sleeping bag if camping, and a headlamp.

For serious/expedition treks (K2 Base Camp, Concordia): All of the above plus: a 4-season sleeping bag, proper high-altitude layering (base, insulating, waterproof shell), gaiters for glacier terrain, trekking poles, and sun protection rated for high-altitude UV exposure.

What's typically provided by us: On any guided trekking package, tents, group cooking equipment and porters for shared gear are included, you're generally responsible for personal clothing, boots, sleeping bag and a daypack.

See our Pakistan Packing List for the general travel version, or our Camping Guide for what's provided on camping-inclusive tours.
