A seven-day Skardu trip is long enough to cover the region's essential highlights without turning the holiday into a checklist. The best plan groups nearby places together and leaves enough flexibility for mountain weather, road delays and slow scenic stops.

Day 1, Arrival and an easy first afternoon

Arrive in Skardu, settle into your hotel and keep the first day light. A visit to the bazaar, Kharpocho viewpoint or Satpara Lake works well without committing to a long drive immediately after arrival.

Day 2, Kachura and Shangrila

Spend a full day around Lower Kachura, Shangrila and Upper Kachura. These stops sit naturally together and give you lakes, mountain views, boating opportunities and relaxed walking rather than a rushed sequence of distant attractions.

Day 3, Shigar Valley

Drive to Shigar for the fort, old village lanes and the cold-desert landscape. The day works best when you treat the fort and settlement as the main experience rather than squeezing them between multiple unrelated stops.

Day 4, Deosai, when seasonally accessible

In the normal summer access period, dedicate the entire day to Deosai and Sheosar Lake. It is a high-altitude 4x4 outing and deserves time for wildlife observation, photography and acclimatisation. Outside the access season, substitute a lower-elevation valley excursion.

Day 5, Khaplu

Khaplu is worth a full day or an overnight if your schedule allows. The drive, historic settlement and palace area give the trip a different cultural character from Skardu city and Shigar.

Day 6, Flexible exploration

Use this as a buffer and choice day: Basho Valley, Manthoka, extra time in Khaplu or Shigar, or simply a slower photography day. Keeping one flexible day protects the itinerary from weather and gives you room to follow local recommendations.

Day 7, Departure

Keep the final morning simple, especially if you are flying. Mountain flights can be weather-sensitive, so avoid placing an important international connection immediately after the Skardu sector.
