Pakistan is not one destination, it's seven very different ones stitched together, and the single most common planning mistake is trying to see too much of it in too little time. Before booking anything, it's worth understanding the shape of the country.

The mountains (Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) are what most international visitors come for: Hunza, Skardu, Swat, Chitral. These need a summer window (roughly April-October) and reward longer stays, 10-15 days lets you combine two or three valleys without feeling rushed.

The cities and heritage sites (Punjab, Sindh, Islamabad Capital Territory), Lahore, Multan, Karachi, Islamabad, run on the opposite calendar, best October through March, and work well as 2-4 day additions before or after a mountain trip rather than the main event.

Azad Kashmir sits in between: mountainous but close enough to Islamabad (1.5-6 hours) to visit without a domestic flight, making it the easiest first taste of northern Pakistan if your time is tight.

Our own most-booked structure is a 10-15 day trip: 2-3 days in Lahore or Islamabad for heritage and food, then 7-10 days across one or two northern regions. If you can only pick one northern region, Gilgit-Baltistan (Hunza + Skardu) is the most developed for tourism and the easiest to move around; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Swat, Chitral) is greener and quieter; Azad Kashmir is the best fit if you have under a week.

Whatever you choose, build in a rest day, the driving distances in northern Pakistan are longer than they look on a map, and a packed itinerary with zero slack is the second most common planning mistake we see.
