Pakistan's festival calendar spans religious, cultural and sporting events across every season, here's the complete year in one place.

February: Basant (Lahore's traditional kite festival, though subject to current restrictions) and the Cholistan Jeep Rally, Pakistan's largest desert motorsport festival.

April: Cherry and apricot blossom season across Hunza and Skardu, not a formal festival but functions as one given the visitor interest it draws.

Mid-May: Chilam Joshi, the Kalash people's best-known spring festival.

July: The Shandur Polo Festival, held at the world's highest polo ground between Chitral and Gilgit teams.

August: Uchal, the Kalash summer harvest festival, and Independence Day (August 14) nationwide.

Variable dates: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha shift each year according to the Islamic lunar calendar; Sufi Urs celebrations at major shrines (Sehwan Sharif, Multan) also follow the Islamic calendar.

Winter: Chaumos, the Kalash winter solstice and new year festival, alongside the Hunza Winter Festival.

See our individual guides to Kalash Festivals, Shandur Polo and Snow Festivals for full detail on each.
