Nathiagali, part of the wider Galiyat hill-station region, offers a quieter and more forested alternative to Murree, pine woods, colonial-era architecture and access to some of the Galiyat's best hiking, all within reach of Islamabad.

Ayubia National Park

Ayubia National Park, encompassing the forested hills around Nathiagali, protects a significant stretch of pine and oak woodland alongside a chairlift ride offering scenic views over the surrounding valleys, one of the most accessible scenic rides in the entire Galiyat region, and a natural half-day activity for most visitors.

Miranjani Peak

Miranjani, at 2,992m, is the highest peak in the Galiyat region, a rewarding day hike from Nathiagali, with panoramic views extending toward Kashmir and, on exceptionally clear days, as far as Nanga Parbat. The trail passes through dense forest before opening onto the summit's grassy ridge.

Mukshpuri Top

Mukshpuri, at 2,800m, is the Galiyat's second-highest peak and one of the most accessible serious hikes reachable from Islamabad. Two routes lead to the summit, a gentler, longer path from Nathiagali itself, and a steeper, shorter route from Dunga Gali, with views reportedly extending to Abbottabad, Murree and parts of Azad Kashmir on clear days.

Dunga Gali

Dunga Gali, just below Nathiagali, serves as the trailhead for the steeper Mukshpuri route and offers its own quieter, less commercially developed character compared to the busier Nathiagali bazaar area.

Colonial-Era Architecture and St. Matthew's Church

Nathiagali retains genuine colonial-era character in its architecture, a legacy of its development as a British hill retreat, St. Matthew's Church, a small stone church dating to this period, remains a notable landmark reflecting this history.

Khanaspur

Khanaspur, a quiet residential area near Nathiagali, is known for its educational institutions set among pine forest, a peaceful corner of the Galiyat away from the main bazaar and tourist strip.

Best Time to Visit

April through October offers the most comfortable temperatures and full trail access; winter brings genuine snowfall, transforming Nathiagali into a quieter, snow-covered retreat, though some higher trails become impassable.

Getting There

Nathiagali is roughly a 3-3.5 hour drive from Islamabad via Murree and the Galiyat road, a comfortable, well-maintained route making it accessible as a weekend trip without requiring extensive advance planning.
