You'll need a passport valid 6+ months beyond your travel dates, a passport style photo, and proof of accommodation or a tour itinerary.
Visa Prior to Arrival (VPA): Eligible nationalities can use Pakistan's official VPA facility. Requirements can change, so confirm your passport's current eligibility on the official Pakistan Online Visa System. What an invitation letter does: Where required for your visa category, it confirms that your trip is arranged with a tour operator and supports the documentation submitted with your application. It's a standard, straightforward document, not a complex bureaucratic hurdle.
Special permits: Only required for a small number of restricted areas, parts of Chitral near the Afghan border, Neelum Valley areas near the Line of Control, and K2/Baltoro trekking routes. Standard sightseeing across Skardu, Hunza, Swat, Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi needs no special permit beyond your visa.
One detail travelers frequently miss: Some e Visa validity windows are fixed from the date of issue rather than your travel dates, double check your specific visa's validity period against your actual travel dates before finalising flights, since applying too early can mean your visa expires before you arrive.
