Ormara is a small coastal town roughly midway between Karachi and Gwadar, offering one of the Makran coast's most pristine beaches alongside real, working fishing community life.
The beach: Long, clean stretches of golden sand and clear blue water, considerably less developed than Karachi's beaches, some visitors who've seen both consider Ormara's beach even more striking than the better known Kund Malir further along the coast.
A working town, not a resort: Ormara is a genuine fishing port and naval town (home to a Pakistan Navy base) rather than a purpose built tourist destination, fishing remains the primary local livelihood, giving a visit here a more authentic, lived in character than more commercialised beach destinations.
Camping: Given minimal formal accommodation, camping on the beach is the standard way to experience an overnight stay, stargazing here is excellent given the remote location's minimal light pollution.
Practical visiting information: Roughly 344km (about 6 to 7 hours) from Karachi and 230km from Gwadar along the Makran Coastal Highway. Best visited July October or February April, avoiding the intense May June heat that can exceed 40°C.
Our honest advice: Given the remoteness and basic facilities, this is a destination best visited with an organized tour rather than independently for most travelers, bring full supplies if camping, and don't expect resort level infrastructure.
