Marsur Rock, above Hussainabad village near Skardu, has become one of Gilgit-Baltistan's most photographed hidden-gem hikes since its discovery, a dramatic, sloping granite ledge widely nicknamed "Pakistan's Trolltunga" for its resemblance to Norway's famous rock formation.
recent discovery: Unlike most of Skardu's established attractions, Marsur Rock was only discovered and popularised by local photographers around 2017-2018, a modern addition to the region's hiking scene rather than a long-established landmark.
The formation itself: A knife-edge granite ledge partially embedded into the mountainside, sitting at roughly 3,737m, the hike itself starts from around 3,026m, meaning a genuine altitude gain over the route.
Getting there: A 10-20 minute jeep ride from Skardu to Hussainabad village, followed by a 5.7km round-trip hike taking roughly 2-3 hours, crossing a metal bridge and stream before a steeper, rockier ascent.
Along the way, Love Rock: About 150 metres before reaching Marsur Rock itself, hikers pass "Love Rock," a boulder with a natural heart-shaped hollow, a popular photo stop in its own right.
What you see from the top: Panoramic views of Skardu city, the Indus River, the Sarfaranga Cold Desert and the surrounding Karakoram peaks, one of the most complete single-viewpoint panoramas in the whole Skardu region.
Practical notes: Moderate difficulty, reasonably fit hikers can complete it, but the trail forks partway up without formal signage, so a local guide is recommended for first-time visitors. No food, water or mobile signal exist along the route.
Best time to visit: May through September, when trails are clear and dry; winter access involves genuine ice and snow risk.

When you submit an enquiry, we use the name, contact details, travel dates, group size and preferences you provide only to respond, prepare a quotation, arrange requested services and maintain necessary booking records. We do not sell personal information. Details may be shared only with relevant hotels, airlines, transport providers, guides, permit authorities or payment providers when necessary to prepare or fulfil your confirmed booking.
We keep information only for legitimate operational, legal and accounting needs and apply reasonable safeguards. To request access, correction or deletion, email info@pakistan-tours.pk. Some records may need to be retained where required by law or an active booking.
Website prices are starting or indicative rates and are not a confirmed offer until availability, itinerary, inclusions, exclusions, payment schedule and supplier terms are provided in writing. Flights, hotels, permits, vehicles and guides remain subject to availability. A booking becomes confirmed only after you accept the written quotation and the required payment is received.
There is no single cancellation period for every package. The applicable cancellation and refund schedule is stated in your written quotation before payment because airline tickets, hotel deposits, permits and other suppliers can have different rules. Non-refundable supplier charges already paid on your behalf may be deducted from any refund. Weather, road, flight, border or official-access changes may require an alternative route or revised service; the written booking terms explain the options for your trip.
