Leepa Valley, near Muzaffarabad, offers a different character from the wider Neelum Valley circuit, an orchard-covered valley best known for some of Azad Kashmir's most spectacular autumn colour.

Autumn foliage: Leepa's walnut and apple orchards turn brilliant shades of gold and red each autumn, drawing visitors specifically for this seasonal spectacle, a genuine rival to Hunza's better-known autumn colour further north.

The orchard economy: Walnut and apple production forms a real part of the valley's local economy, giving the landscape a cultivated, lived-in character distinct from the more purely scenic valleys elsewhere in AJK.

Why it stays quieter than Neelum Valley: Leepa sees considerably less tourist traffic than the main Neelum circuit, appealing specifically to travelers wanting a calmer, less-visited alternative with genuine autumn-colour reward.

Getting there: Reached from Muzaffarabad, with the valley's orchards most rewarding in October when the autumn colour peaks.

Best time to visit: October specifically for the autumn foliage; spring and summer offer a greener, though less visually dramatic, alternative.
