Internet access across Skardu, Hunza and the wider north splits sharply between "readily available" and "plan to be offline", here's the real picture by location type.

Skardu city and Karimabad (Hunza): Most hotels offer WiFi, generally reliable though speeds vary considerably more than you'd expect in a city, treat it as a bonus rather than something to depend on for video calls or large uploads.

Shangrila, Shigar, Khaplu: Hotel WiFi is increasingly common but less consistent than in Skardu city itself, don't count on it for anything time-sensitive.

Deosai, remote valleys (Chapursan, Shimshal, Basho) and trekking routes: Expect no WiFi and no mobile data for extended stretches, this is important to plan around, not just a minor inconvenience.

How to prepare: Download offline maps before leaving Skardu city or Islamabad, this matters more for northern Pakistan road trips than almost anywhere else, since signal drops out completely on many routes. Let family or travel companions know you may be unreachable for stretches, particularly on multi-day treks or remote valley excursions.
