Hunza gets called "Pakistan's Shangri-La" so often it's become a cliché, but the comparison holds up better than most travel marketing, terraced apricot orchards, 7,000m peaks on every horizon, and a valley compact enough to properly explore in under a week.

How many days: 4-5 days covers the essentials (Baltit Fort, Attabad Lake, Passu Cones) comfortably. Add 2 more for Khunjerab Pass, and another 2-3 if you want to reach Chapursan or Shimshal, Hunza's remote side valleys that most visitors never see.

When to go: April brings cherry and apricot blossom and is our most-requested month, though facilities can be less than fully open this early. June-September is peak season, everything accessible, warmest weather, busiest roads. October delivers golden autumn colour with a fraction of the crowds, arguably the best month for photography.

Getting there: Fly to Gilgit (1 hour from Islamabad) then drive 2.5 hours, or drive the full Karakoram Highway from Islamabad (14-16 hours), one of the great road journeys, not just a means to an end.

What it costs: A standard 5-day road package runs roughly PKR 40,000-50,000 per person in a shared group vehicle; private tours start around PKR 48,000 and scale up with hotel category. Add Khunjerab Pass and you're looking at 7 days and a modest increase for the extra transport day.

One thing people underestimate: Hunza is not just Karimabad. The bazaar town gets the attention, but Passu, Gulmit and the Gojal region further up-valley are quieter, arguably more scenic, and worth at least one full day away from the main tourist strip.
