Islamabad is the most straightforward gateway to Hunza, here's exactly what to expect for this standard route.

Flying: A roughly 1-hour flight to Gilgit, weather permitting, followed by a 2-3 hour road transfer to Karimabad, the fastest option, though weather-dependent, so build in a buffer day.

Driving: The full Karakoram Highway road journey takes roughly 14-16 hours, typically split across 2 days with an overnight stop, a genuine scenic experience in its own right, not just transit.

Typical itinerary length: 5-7 days covers the core Hunza highlights well from Islamabad; 10 days allows deeper exploration including Chapursan or Shimshal Valleys.

Best time to go: June-September for full access, or April specifically for cherry blossom season.
