Hingol National Park, spanning roughly 6,100 square kilometres across Balochistan's Lasbela, Awaran and Gwadar districts, is Pakistan's largest national park and one of its most otherworldly landscapes, accessible directly from the Makran Coastal Highway.

The mud volcanoes: The Chandragup mud volcanoes, some rising several hundred feet, are a genuine geological curiosity and a sacred Hindu pilgrimage site, Chandragup 1 in particular draws pilgrims annually and is a fun, moderate climb for regular visitors too.

Princess of Hope: A natural rock formation resembling a woman gazing into the distance, shaped entirely by wind erosion, it gained its evocative name after actress Angelina Jolie noticed it during a 2004 UN goodwill visit to Pakistan.

The Balochistan Sphinx: Another wind-eroded rock formation, visible from the Buzi Pass section of the highway, bearing a striking resemblance to Egypt's Great Sphinx.

Kund Malir Beach: Often called Pakistan's most beautiful beach, Kund Malir was included in a list of Asia's 50 most beautiful beaches in 2018, golden sand meeting the Arabian Sea beneath dramatic desert cliffs.

Hinglaj Mata Mandir: One of the most significant Hindu pilgrimage sites in Pakistan, drawing tens of thousands of pilgrims each spring to this remote temple at the park's centre, a significant living religious tradition within the park.

Wildlife: Home to Sindh ibex, Balochistan urial, chinkara gazelle, marsh crocodiles and marine life including dolphins and nesting turtles along the coast.

Practical visiting information: Roughly 4 hours from Karachi via the Makran Coastal Highway. Facilities within the park are basic, bring your own supplies, travel with an experienced guide given limited fuel stations, and expect routine security checkpoints along the route.
