Swat Valley, the easiest choice: Good road quality throughout, shorter driving days than most northern destinations, and gentle activities (Malam Jabba chairlift, easy jeep excursions) make this consistently our top family recommendation.
Naran and Kaghan Valley: A close second, Lake Saif ul Malook is a genuine family favourite, though the jeep track there is bumpier than Swat's roads.
Murree and Nathiagali: The lowest commitment option given proximity to Islamabad, suitable even for families with very young children or limited time.
Where we'd exercise more caution: Hunza and Skardu are entirely doable with children but involve longer travel days and, for Skardu's Deosai excursion specifically, higher altitude, rewarding but requiring more planning around pacing.
