Babusar Pass, at 4,173m, connects Kaghan Valley to Chilas on the Karakoram Highway, offering one of the most dramatic high-altitude drives accessible from a standard Naran-based itinerary.

The drive itself: Roughly 2-2.5 hours from Naran, climbing steadily through increasingly stark, high-altitude terrain before cresting the pass with sweeping views in multiple directions.

Seasonal access: Generally open June through September/October, heavy winter snow closes the pass for much of the rest of the year, so this is strictly a summer-season excursion.

Lulusar Lake en route: The drive passes directly by Lulusar Lake, the source of the Kunhar River, a natural and unmissable stop along the way rather than a separate detour.

Continuing to Chilas: For travelers connecting onward to Gilgit-Baltistan, Babusar Pass offers an alternative summer route to the standard KKH-via-Besham approach, though road conditions should be confirmed before relying on it.

See our Naran Kaghan destination guide for the full valley itinerary including this excursion.
