Arang Kel, perched above the village of Kel in upper Neelum Valley, offers one of Azad Kashmir's most rewarding short excursions, a genuine change of pace from the valley floor below.

Getting up: A chairlift connects Kel directly to Arang Kel, or those preferring to walk can take a scenic 1-1.5 hour hike up through forest, both options are well-used and manageable for most fitness levels.

What you'll find: An open plateau meadow scattered with traditional wooden houses, offering panoramic views back down over the Neelum Valley, one of the more photogenic settings in the region.

Why it works well as a short trip: Unlike many AJK excursions requiring a full day or overnight commitment, Arang Kel is doable as a half-day add-on to a Kel-based itinerary, making it easy to combine with the Ratti Gali Lake excursion on a longer Neelum Valley trip.

Best time to visit: April-October, when both the chairlift and hiking trail are reliably accessible.

See our Arang Kel destination guide or our Kel guide for how the two combine on a single trip.
